A Simple Way to Tell Visitors About Your Worship Service

I recently read a church’s website that described their worship services as a solemn joy.

Solemn joy? Between my father’s ministry, my father-in-law’s ministry, and 20 plus years of my own, I have never heard that term.

But I’ve got to give it to that church.  They did a good job explaining what people can expect when they worship with them.

That is one of the details most often neglected on church websites and social media pages:  worship service description.

As much as people want to know about meeting times and nursery details, what people really want to know is what a church’s worship service is like.  People wonder:

What kind of songs do you sing?

Do you preach topically or exegetically?

How should I dress?

Do people lift hands regularly or not?

Solemn joy at least paints a picture of expectation for a future visitor.

The question to consider is how can your church communicate what your services are like to someone who is potentially worship with you?

Could you include a video of one of your songs on your Facebook page?

Could you add a worship tab on your church website that answers potential questions?
Could you create a philosophy of worship for your members and possible visitors?

Either way, worshiping is what the church does.  Detailing what your services are like is a helpful, learning process for you, reminds your members of what your goal is in worship, and will help potential visitors know if you are right for them.
