How to Talk to Your Church About Giving

There are three approaches to talking about giving in the American church:

Talk about it all the time.

Never talk about it.

Talk about it once a year.

What’s the correct option?  Well, this is one of those wisdom choices each church must make for themselves.  What we always encourage in our coaching is this:

Make your conversation about worship first. Giving is first and foremost and act of worship.

Secondly, emphasize the merciful nature of giving.  God meets the needs of others through His people’s generosity.

Three, teach about the principle of stewardship in all things…not just money.

And finally, we talk about the correlation between faith and giving fidelity.

When this approach is taken, it is typically above approach.  No one can accuse your leadership of manipulation or guilting.  Additionally, no one can accuse your leadership of taking the principles of giving out of context.

Hopefully, this is a help and encouragement.  If we can ever be an encouragement in a greater level around giving or fundraising, please let us know.

We are so thankful for you and your ministry.
