The Church Doors Are Back Open…Now What?
The church doors are back open. Now what?
With the CDC’s change in mask policy, the country is reopening. And while many churches never closed their doors, most churches are now open to full capacity and the resumption of most of their programs.
But what if everyone doesn’t return? Well, already, that seems to be the case.
Yes, there is hope that members and visitors will trickle back, but the initial impression is that some people are just not returning to corporate worship. The options of virtual worship, or no worship at all, just have too much appeal.
So, what is the church to do? Here are three approaches.
Option One: Nothing. The church’s job is to faithfully proclaim the Gospel, and God will bring in those who He has called to Himself.
Option Two: Create programs that will directly speak to former members and non-Christians. Train your members how to speak to those who have left the church and those who aren’t part of the church. Evangelism now involves reaching out to non-Christians and post corporate-worship Christians.
Option Three: Expand your church’s marketing. Embrace Facebook, update your website, sponsor a 5k for a reputable charity. Whatever. Just get your church’s name into the marketplace. People may be looking for new churches post-pandemic, and they can’t visit you if they don’t know bout you.
Of course, only option one is easy, and it is hard to support that argument no matter how Calvinistic you are. The bigger challenge is to get consensus from your team about what you are going to do. Honestly, the return of the church may pose a bigger challenge than holding them together during the pandemic.
We’ll take that up in another email. As to what to do next, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We have programs that can help you with options two – four.
We look forward to hearing from you.
